_under-siege-leningrad-92.webp "For educational purposes<br/><br/>The siege was the longest and most enduring of World War Two if not the entire twentieth century, what was initially a planned attack to take the city in four weeks turned into a nine-hundred-day siege of immense proportions.<br/><br/>Since before Leningrad was called such she was called Saint Petersburg and in her long history had never been invaded, despite this Hitler announced that it was to be the first great Soviet city to fall and city was to be wiped off the face of the earth.<br/><br/>In 1941 the decision was taken Leningrad was a symbolic with Operation Barbarossa have three main objectives :<br/>- With army group south taking the industrial might of the Soviet Union heading to the oil fields of the Cacausses.<br/>- Army group Centre heading for the country's capital and political headquarters Moscow.<br/>- And Army group north with its orders to take the historical symbol of Bolshevism Leningrad because it was here in 1917 that the October Revolution was proclaimed. <br/><br/><br/>Hitler said that it was a war of ideology taking Leningrad will deprave the Russian people of the symbol to their revolution. <br/><br/>The German planned to take quickly the city so the same troops could be used the same troop to conquer Moscow. <br/><br/>Leningrad will become Hitler's grave because it was proved that the fight for the city was a fight for pure survival and that Leningraders were not afraid of death but that death was affair of Leningrad. <br/><br/>Life, honour, happiness, everything was at stake in this mortal challenge. With stiff resistance containing and troops needed elsewhere, the Panzer battalions disengaged and went south to Moscow, leaving the long-range artillery. <br/><br/>The battle of Leningrad had effectively become a siege. Surrounded on all sides, there was not an effective way to get supplies into the city, Goebbels saying that Leningrad is doomed to die of famine. <br/><br/>The entire population was put on the ration of a few loaves of black bread per day, with many of some parts of the population turning to cannibalism. <br/><br/>Health problems from the survivors many died later as a result.<br/>The 'Road of Life', a frozen lake that in January 1942 saw a passage through which vital supplies could be smuggled into the encircled city. <br/><br/>Spring saw a pipeline to bring oil to the city under siege, the Soviet offensive in late 1943 saw 200,000 men make a pincer movement which by January 1944 was able lift the siege so that the city was no longer an island. <br/><br/>The Siege of Leningrad had taken the lives of over 1 million of its citizens either from air attacks, artillery bombardments, starvation and disease; the population stood firm until the only Germans who entered the city were prisoners of war, being the only German soldiers to serve in a single army group during the entire war.<br/><br/>The siege was lifted, but it would take another year to completely defeat the German army, and with the lifting of the siege certain came down the iron certain with the return of Soviet oppression, seeing many he")

Known as “Pauki”, Reinhold Paukner was a customiser of the first generation. He made a name for himself in south-west Germany in the eighties, when a balloon tyre was still regarded as a really big pellet. Back then, the Evolution engine was considered the devil’s work, because a real Harley biker rode at least a Shovel.<br/><br/>Then came the big boom, when the first half-breeds earned enough money to afford brand new Harleys. Because it was already an Evo, they did not have to go through the hell of tinkering with Shovels, on which Pauki had completed his apprenticeship. On the other hand, if they wanted to get there a little faster, Pauki would get them there too, because once the Evo was there, Pauki knew how to turn that first sturdy Harley engine into a beast that was strong as an ox by the standards of the time.<br/><br/>But we were talkin' about old school...<br/><br/>And it comes as no surprise that Paoki chose a final year Shovelhead to customise. It would have been typical of him to want to preserve a value that was already becoming historic.<br/><br/>As an ambassador of a bygone era, this Shovel made its way north to us. Our boss, Andreas Bergerforth, bought it from a collector. He appreciated its historical value and, apart from the necessary maintenance work, never lifted a finger on Pauki’s Shovel. Everyone in our company loves to ride her, and even a pillion rider feels comfortable on this western-style saddle. The important thing was not to follow any trend, but to give form and execution its own signature. There was no framework! TÜV? Fuck it all! Are there any customers for this? No matter! Too costly, too expensive? So what!<br/><br/>Only the goal was clear: “Absolutely awesome”.<br/><br/>From the first sketch to the start of construction about 6 months passed. The construction time even to the ready to drive blank was 4 months. Another month was needed for paint, chrome and final assembly.<br/>The controls such as throttle, clutch, brake, gearshift and air suspension were not visibly integrated into fork and frame. The result was a super clean overall impression, which is not distracted by screws, cables or lines from the design. Consciously creates the impression that it is an inedible study.<br/>Design highlight and technology center is certainly the fork.<br/>Frame and fork bridges merge together in a previously unknown way.<br/>At the same time, the entire operating technique is hidden in the upper triple clamp.<br/>The Spectacula is driven and braked by an equally invisible friction roller drive with intermediate gear.<br/><br/>The front brake pipe was integrated into the standpipe. The technology was developed by BIGS – NL.<br/><br/>Air suspension at the front and rear lets the bike lift for driving.<br/>Considering that everything was made in-house (from the framework to the body work to the 3D milling work) one can imagine that it was a tremendous show of strength for us. It was difficult that we also built our new Harley-Davidson store at the same time.<br/>Our goal was to drive the bike into the shop on the opening day.<br/>The biggest challenge for this project was its own claim: absolute high – end.<br/>The paint system is from Kruse Design. The paint is 28 layers thick and interspersed with different sized metal pigments (Multishape by House of Coulor). All stripes are hand-lined (pinstriping).<br/>Winning the title means a lot to us all here: it’s the reward for the hard work of the past few weeks. Many customers come from far away to see this bike.
